My great grandmother used to partake of a similar "medicine"-the infamous Lydia Pinkham's!

I don't know if they were known outside Australia, but the ads for Bex and Vincents APC (Aspirin, Phenacitin and Codeine) powders, were standard in the '50s and '60s but viewed in the light of today's knowledge were horrendous. It became a byword in Oz to "have a Bex and a lie-down". It could be worthwhile to dig some of these out - also, while I think of it, Ford Pills.
